BURGER KING KETCHUP & FRIES CHIPS – BURGER KING FLAME BROILED WHOPPER CHIPS
I hate ketchup.
I really hate it, but I couldn’t pass up trying these when I saw them in a rural Iowa Casey’s General Store. I bought the Ketchup & Fries chips and a bag of Flame Broiled Whopper chips. These are both made by the Inventure Group, which is the same company that brings us the T.G.I. Friday’s line of chips.
Ketchup & Fries-
The chips look like a thick, crunchy band-aid covered in red dust. The aroma coming from the bag is sweet and sweaty. The chips have a decent texture, a little granular, and floury, but okay. I was ready to spit these out in a second because of my hatred for ketchup, but they just tasted like BBQ Chips, without the smokey goodness. Just sweet tomato with some salt. Pretty bland, and basic, and seem lacking. 4 out of 10
Flame Broiled Whopper-
These chips have more of a chip shape, but are closer to a potato-skin look. The smell smokey, and a little sweet. Same texture as the Ketchup & Fries, with maybe a little more substance. I was looking forward to these, but was a little worried that they would have that “LOADED” flavor with onions, pickles, and tomatoes. They are actually nothing like that. They tasted like a BBQ chip, without the sweet tomato, just the smoke… the exact opposite of the Ketchup & Fries. 3 out of 10
-So what if I tried them together… would it make the perfect BBQ chip. No. Just a bad BBQ chip. 3 out of 10
My verdict is a PASS. Both chips are lacking any depth in flavor to keep you wanting more. They are boring in most every way (except the eye catching bags) and I give these chips both a PASS.
